Where Are Ringtones Stored on Mac?

Ringtones on a Mac are usually stored in the iTunes Media folder located in the user’s music folder. To access the iTunes Media folder, go to the Music folder, then find the iTunes folder and open it. Inside the iTunes folder, you should see the "iTunes Media" folder that contains the ringtones that you have synced from your iPhone or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you’ve created custom ringtones, they will be in the Tones folder. Alternatively, if you’ve downloaded ringtones from third-party sources, they might be in the Downloads folder or somewhere else on your Mac.

Where are ringtones kept in iTunes?

In previous versions of iTunes, ringtones were kept in a separate section under "Library" called "Tones." However, with the release of iTunes 12.7 and later versions, Apple has removed the "Tones" section and so the ringtones are now integrated into the "Sounds" category under "Settings" on your iPhone.

To add custom ringtones, you can still use iTunes to create and edit the sound files. First, select the audio file you want to use for your ringtone, and then use iTunes to adjust its start and stop times so that it’s under 40 seconds long. Then, right-click the file and choose "Create AAC Version." You can then find the newly created file in your iTunes library and rename its file extension from .m4a to .m4r. Finally, drag and drop the .m4r file into the "Sounds" file folder on your iPhone when it’s connected to your computer. The ringtone should then be available under "Settings" > "Sounds" > "Ringtone" on your iPhone.

Why is there no tones folder in my iTunes library?

The absence of a "tones" folder in the iTunes library can occur due to various reasons. One of the most common reasons is that the user may have accidentally deleted the folder or the folder could have been automatically removed during an iTunes update or a sync. Another possibility is that the user may have turned off the "Tones" option in iTunes preferences.

To resolve this issue, the user can try enabling the "Tones" option in iTunes preferences and see if the folder appears in the library. The user can also try to locate the folder in their computer’s file explorer to check if it has been moved to another location. If the folder is not found, the user can manually create a new "tones" folder and add their desired ringtones to the folder.
